Istanbul Ancient Tour will tell the history of the great city, which was written over many centuries and it was vividly reflected in the architectural sights of the former capital of the Ottoman Empire. It is the only city in the world that connects two continents: Europe and Asia. And the border runs along the Bosphorus, where a magnificent bridge serves as a link between the European and Asian parts of the city. It is in this place that a huge number of iconic places are concentrated, which we will visit as part of our program.
Istanbul Ancient Tour is conducted in English. Our guide has a specialized history education and will gladly share his vast store of knowledge with tourists. The cost of the excursion is incomparably small in comparison with the educational program received to explore the greatest city.
As part of the tour, we will visit the Dolmabahce Palace, which was the residence of the Ottoman sultans. The palace complex is located on the European part of the Bosphorus, from its windows simply breathtaking views of the strait and the bridge open.
The palace was built for Sultan Abdul-Majid I and its luxury can compete with the famous Topkapi. It took a lot of gold to decorate the interior, and a magnificent chandelier made to the special order of the Sultan is of particular value. Since 1984, the palace has been a museum for tourists. It is noteworthy that during the time of the first president of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the palace was the state administration of the head of government.
Our next stop of Istanbul Ancient Tour will be the Suleymaniye Mosque - the largest mosque in Turkey. It was built during the reign of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and reflects the golden age of the Ottoman Empire. The palace complex in its location also has an observatory, a hospital, educational institutions, baths. Its size can be compared to a city block. On its territory there is an oriental library, where you can get acquainted with the manuscripts of the 9th-19th centuries. In the courtyard of the mosque, in the mausoleum, rest the remains of Suleiman the Great and his beloved Roksolana.
The tour of ancient Istanbul will continue in the Basilica Cistern. It is the largest underground reservoir in the city. Its main purpose is to provide city dwellers with water in times of drought. The underground complex has a displacement of 80,000 m³, its vaults are supported by many columns assembled from various temples. In this regard, they are all different, special attention is drawn to the columns with the heads of the Gorgon. The second name of the cistern is the underground palace.
